The customer

Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is active in process development, scale-up and production of innovative bio-based products and processes.

Purpose

Due to an expansion of fermentation capacity, the customer needed additional cooling water capacity.

Problem-solution

The installation for producing cooling water for fermenters consists of cooling towers, water-water chillers, and various pumps, valves, and sensors.

  • Based on the P&ID of Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant , we started the 3D engineering of the project.
  • For the already installed chillers and cooling towers, our team was responsible for supplying and installing various pipelines and instrumentation.
  • All the piping was insulated by the CGK team.

Some specific features of the project made the installation extra complex and challenging:

  • Engineering: The installation must operate efficiently during winter, summer, and transitional seasons. To achieve this, we defined
multiple operating modes that control the installation in various ways.3D-Design: The available space for the installation was very limited, necessitating a compact design. The 3D design optimally utilizes the available space while also providing sufficient room for maintenance.Piping: The use of large pipe diameters (up to DN250) sometimes complicates handling and supporting, especially given the limited available space.
