Piping & Insulation for Cooling Installation (Exportslachthuis De Coster NV)

The customer
Exportslachthuis De Coster NV is a pig slaughterhouse located in Ruiselede and is part of Danis Pork Masters.
Purpose
Installation of stainless steel piping and insulation for the upgraded cooling system. (Commissioned by Industriële Koeltechniek Roose)
Problem-solution
The installation that controls the cold storage rooms in the slaughterhouse uses stainless steel piping through which ammonia (NH₃) flows. This liquid has a temperature of -9°C.
De Coster NV recently installed a completely new ammonia system. CGK Group was responsible for the piping and insulation of the three compressors and the buffer tank.
- All piping was installed in stainless steel (RVS).
- Since ammonia is a highly hazardous substance, this project required a very specific welding technique. For this, we assigned one of our 'photo welders', and we also prepared the welding dossier.
- To prevent temperature loss, the entire piping system and the buffer tank (~3m³) were insulated.
- We applied a polyurethane (PUR) layer, which provides effective insulation, prevents condensation, and avoids corrosion.
- The PUR foam was injected into metal jacketing, which was mounted at the required distance from the piping using brackets.
- CGK guaranteed the professional placement of the insulation through thermal imaging analysis.
- The heat released during the compression of ammonia is recovered to heat water, which is used throughout the facility (e.g., for cleaning).
- To avoid disrupting production, all work related to the conversion/switching of the evaporators was carried out during the weekend.
