Installation of Piping, Insulation, Instrumentation, and Platforms (Bekina Boots)
The customer
Bekina Boots, based in Kluisbergen, is one of the largest international players in the field of polyurethane safety boots.
Purpose
Due to production expansion, the customer required additional piping and instrumentation for the unloading of the chemical liquid isocyanate.
Problem-solution
Based on the provided P&ID, we installed all required stainless steel piping. However, after further assessment, we realized we could support the customer on a broader level, leading to an expanded project scope. We collaborated on solutions and ultimately took charge of the entire construction, including instrumentation (pumps, valves, hoses) and platforms.
Since isocyanate solidifies below 25°C, it was crucial to insulate and heat-trace all pipes and pumps. The liquid is automatically maintained at the correct temperature, ensuring a smooth unloading and transport process.
- Outside the new production facility, where trucks unload isocyanate, our team installed a galvanized steel platform with:
✔ Fiberglass-reinforced (GRP) railings for corrosion resistance
✔ A caged ladder & foldable stairway for easy access to truck rooftops - Key Challenge: The system needed to be compatible with two different isocyanate suppliers, meaning the couplings had to fit multiple truck types.
Inside the facility, we built a stainless steel platform to support:
✔ Pumps and pipelines for suction & transport of isocyanate to large existing storage tanks
✔ GRP railings & yellow caged ladder, ensuring a safe and durable setup
✔ Prefabrication of the structures took place at our Gullegem workshop
✔ On-site assembly & TIG welding were carried out at the customer’s facility
Thanks to our team’s extensive expertise, we completed the entire project smoothly and cost-efficiently, providing Bekina Boots with a safe, reliable, and optimized isocyanate unloading system.
