The customer

Beringen-based Bristol is an international footwear manufacturer with an extensive sales network.

Purpose

Storage of about 7,000 litres of aerosols, liquid for spray cans, at the distribution centre. The aerosols serve as shoe maintenance products.

Problem-solution

Problem

  • Our containers already comply with ARAB 52.2, VLAREM II and the RD '98 around the storage of highly flammable substances, but fire insurance required additional requirements on top of legislation and the wishes of the fire brigade. A fire resistance of 120 minutes, forced ATEX ventilation and an installation with one sprinkler per container. There had to be at least 90 cm of space under each sprinkler head.
  • Storage of aerosols should comply with VLAREM II, 5.17.2. Among other things, this means no temperatures above 50°C. Fire service requirements range from preventing electrostatic charges to non-combustible materials for vapour discharge.

Solution

CGK Group installed 2 fire resistant containers, for the storage of €16 pallets with 120-minute fire resistance. We provided 90 cm clearance at the top for the sprinklers. These were linked to the in-house installation, so that 1 sprinkler system controls everything. Finally, forced ATEX ventilation leads the vapours outside.

All the efforts did not go unnoticed: the fire insurance company presented Bristol with a special award!
