Fire-resistant storage containers for paints and varnishes (Dierick Deuren)

The customer

Dierick Deuren specializes in custom-made interior doors, tailored to individual measurements and available in series.

Purpose

Regulatory storage of paints, varnishes and distillers in fireproof container.

Problem-solution

As part of a risk analysis by the environmental coordinator, we supported Dierick Deuren in the storage of their paints, lacquers and distiller of tinner. As these liquids are basically composed of solvents, they are therefore highly flammable and by law must be stored compartmented in a fireproof container.

1) fire-resistant Container (8 x 2.5 m) in an indoor arrangement for paints and varnishes:

  • Fire-resistant with side fire door
  • Container is fitted with collection tray to catch leaks
  • The electricity was given an ATEX-compliant design (= spark-free) with ATEX light switch and ATEX LED panels.
  • Ventilation grid to ensure airflow
  • 60 min fire resistance from inside to outside and from outside to inside
  • We chose an indoor setup to be able to control the temperature without the need for heating or cooling.
  • In accordance with NEN 6069

Despite the huge size of the container, it was delivered ‘plug and play’ to Dierick Deuren and the transporter was able to move the container in via the welded U-bracket at the bottom of the container.

2) fire-resistant Container (2 x 2 m) in an outdoor arrangement for the distillation unit for soiled tinner:

This device allows the used tinner to be reused up to 10x.

  • 60 min. fire resistance from inside to outside and from outside to inside
  • Container is fitted with collection tray to catch leaks
  • The electricity was given an ATEX-compliant design (= spark-free) with ATEX light switch and ATEX LED panels.
  • In accordance with ARAB 52.2 & VLAREM 25.17 (paints must be stored fireproof within 10 metres of the building)
