Storage container for liquid and combustible waste (VIB Gent)

The customer

The VIB-UGent Centrum voor Medische Biotechnologie (CMB)is VIB's main centre for biomolecular analysis and biopharmaceutical technical research.

Purpose

Replacement of a storage container for liquid and combustible waste.

Problem-solution

The biotechnology research centre contacted us asking for replacement of an old storage container.

CGK supplied VIB with a fireproof container (6 x 3 x 3), fully adapted to their needs.

The container is divided into two compartments, 1/3 for (highly) flammable substances and 2/3 for non-flammable substances.
The electricity in the ‘flammable section’ was given an ATEX-compliant design (= spark-free).
The compartments are separated by a fireproof wall and each has a separate bottom with collection tray and ventilation holes.
The storage container contains a fireproof conduit with its own fire detection system. VIB Gent's own fire detection system is therefore in direct contact with the fire detector in the container.
As extras, they chose LED and emergency lighting, forced ventilation on the roof (with fan) and storage shelves.

Our team was responsible for the engineering, design, construction and installation of the storage container. VIB Gent can also count on us for the annual maintenance of the storage container.
