Alternative water source for process water (The Water Group & Eurowater)
The customer
Commissioned by De Watergroep en Eurowater, for a company producing industrial enzymes.
Purpose
The company in question was forced to look for an alternative water source of similar quality to that of the currently treated well water. Production of process water with drinking water quality was the minimum requirement.
Problem-solution
The quality of the shallow well water has deteriorated significantly in recent years and more restrictions are also imposed in the pumping quantity of the deep well water.
The nearby canal seemed the ideal water source to further upgrade to the desired final quality. Using an inline coagulation, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis (RO) installation, process water is produced mainly for enzyme production.
Due to its high quality, the produced water is also used as boiler feedwater for a cogeneration plant on the same site. In addition, the pumped channel water is also used as a coolant to cool the warmer RO permeate.
All this makes the overall picture even more interesting and sustainable.
The complete water treatment plant is provided at a net output capacity of 45 m³/h, with possibility of expansion to 60 m³/h.
Concreet bestond de scope van CGK uit:
- Supply of 6 double-walled chemical tanks
(some from the Astro range) and 4 single-walled process tanks:
- Due to space constraints in width, we designed and manufactured some tanks completely to size. This resulted in some narrow high tanks with an extra reinforced wall at the bottom to absorb pressure.
- Because the tanks are so high, a manhole was provided halfway down the side. This ensures the safety of employees during cleaning and possible investigation for leaks.
- The tanks were transported and moved in under the watchful eye of a CGK staff member.
- Supply of dosing and pumping cabinets:
- All liquids (citric acid, H2SO4, NaOH, antiscalant, Bisulphite, NaOCL) are together in one cabinet and each has its own connection.
- The pump cabinets are equipped with leak detection, transparent front panel, drain valve, flush valves and pressure holding valve. These were fully tested by CGK before installation.
- Supply of filling cabinets.
- Installation of single-wall and double-wall piping:
- The connecting piping between the various components of the water treatment system was done in HDPE piping. PP (polypropylene) was chosen for the units themselves
- Since we work with harmful substances, we opted for chemically resistant PVC pipes, which are in turn encased in a translucent flexible. This way, a leak can immediately be visually detected and we protect the installation, the employees and the environment.
- To fully comply with VLAREM II legislation, we also installed an eye shower and body shower inside.
