Safe storage of flammable products in insulated container (Recticel Insulation)

The customer

Recticel Insulation offers insulation solutions for both residential and non-residential buildings. Recticel Insulation is part of the listed Recticel Group, a leading European player in polyurethane solutions. The group operates in the furniture, automotive and construction sectors.

Purpose

For the production of Recticel insulation products, flammable products are used which are located in 1,000-litre plastic IBCs. According to strict insurance and Belgian law requirements, flammable products cannot be stored inside the building.

Problem-solution

To safely store the IBCs containing flammable products, CGK provided 3 insulated containers:

Each container is insulated, as the liquids must be kept at a constant temperature (between 15 and 25°C)
For this reason, the containers are also conditioned. An air-conditioning and heating system have been installed. Due to their ATEX design, there is no risk of explosion (no sparks possible inside the container).
IBCs are dense containers, so there is little risk of leakage. Nevertheless, to eliminate any risk, each container is fitted with GRP-coated steel sump trays.
