The customer

CorroPaint is a Belgian company based in the port of Antwerp, specializing in industrial coatings and corrosion protection.

Purpose

When building their new warehouse, CorroPaint wanted to comply with environmental legislation on fire water collection and protection of people and the environment. Our CGK team was called in to provide a safe and user-friendly liquid-tight barrier.

Problem-solution

In the event of a fire in a warehouse, the sprinklers are activitated, allowing firefighting water to come into contact with oils or other liquids. This contaminated firefighting water can be harmful to both employees and the environment. CorroPaint must therefore prevent this water from leaving the storage area and infiltrating the soil as much as possible.

Because the warehouse is on the same level as the outdoor area, firefighting water had to be stopped at all entrances and exits. The solution also had to remain practical to use, as the warehouse has several large gates through which trucks and shipping containers pass.

We installed semi-automatic liquid barriers that seal off specific areas to prevent liquids from escaping.

  • These barriers were installed on both the regular entrance door and the five large gates.
  • They are linked to the fire alarm control panel and close automatically when an alarm is triggered.
  • One of the large gates presented an additional challenge: the passage had to remain wide enough for shipping containers. Because a single barrier can span a maximum of six meters, a double configuration was chosen here. This ensures that the passage remains optimally usable and that the site complies with all safety and environmental standards.
