Firewater collection (Cummins - Rumst)
The customer
Cummins is a global world leader in the development, production and support of diesel and gas-powered internal combustion engines for agricultural, construction and industrial tools, buses and trucks, among others.
Purpose
At the distribution center in Rumst, flammable substances are temporarily stored in IBCs. Belgian environmental legislation mandates that fixed installations containing flammable substances must be housed within a local containment area for leakage management purposes
Problem-solution
Pallets are stored in the loading zone awaiting collection. As these are often engine/oil-containing - and therefore flammable - parts, it is compulsory to enclose the loading zone. By installing liquid barriers, the company works in full compliance with environmental legislation. Moreover, they reduce costs, as they do not have to make additional investments in enlarging the containment area.
CGK was responsible for the supply and installation of this bespoke project.
- 7 fully automatic loading bay barriers & 6 semi-automatic barriers at the entrances:
- Connected to 25lm fixed T MB PG barriers.
- Equipped with leak detection and linked to the fire alarm control unit.
Additional challenges?
- The loading docks were split across 2 leak detectors, so that when liquid was detected in the corner, the next 3 or 4 barriers would be closed
- The cabling could not run over the wall. We worked through cable ducts from the ceiling downwards.
