Installation of mother-daughter tanks and insulated storage container (Alco Biofuel)
The customer
Alco Bio Fuel Gent (ABF) is one of the largest biorefineries in Belgium that processes grain (mostly maize) into bioethanol, protein-rich animal feed (DDGS), electricity, liquid CO2 and some other by-products such as maize oil.
Purpose
The customer knocked on our door to manufacture several dosing plants for their water treatment. One of the installations will be used directly to control legionellagrowth in their cooling towers.
Problem-solution
To disinfect the cooling towers (in order to control legionella infestation), we mounted 2 double-walled Astro customised tanks (mother-daughter system) in the existing installation:
- At the top of the rack are 2 IBCs containing cleaning fluids hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite.
- To prevent mixing of the two liquids (and avoid the harmful gas chlorine dioxide), the flexibles are fitted with two different couplings. It is therefore impossible to refill the wrong product.
To treat the cooling water, we also installed a storage container:
- The container contains several IBCs that are safely stored.
- Through the dosing panel in the container, the chemicals are drawn from the IBCs and dosed into the cooling water.
- By means of a partition with a splash wall, two compartments were created. On one side are the IBCs, equipped with a sliding door for easy unloading and placing with a forklift truck. On the other side is the dosing unit, equipped only with revolving doors so that employees can easily enter the container.
- The container is insulated and heated.
In addition to the necessary facilities for the cooling towers, we also installed a mother-daughter tank (outdoor installation) with dosing cabinet connected to the water tank:
- This installation adds chemicals to the water treatment plant in a controlled way.
- The dosing cabinet injects iron trichloride(Fecl3) into the water basin to improve the flocculation of dirt during wastewater treatment.
- The mother-daughter system is equipped with automatic overfill protection, so the IBC can be emptied without human intervention and there is no risk of the liquid overflowing.
- The system provides a 30% buffer. This allows the tank to be refilled even before it is empty and does not require constant checking of the IBC.
