Astro tanks are rotationally moulded standard storage tanks made of MDPE and ideal for storing (chemical) liquids, food, water and waste water. More than 650 versions are available within this Astro range, both with flat bottom and conical bottom.

Why choose an Astro tank?

Our standard Astro tanks are the perfect solution for:

  • Storage of smaller volumes such as at laundries or swimming pools, water treatment
  • Storage of liquids in the general industry (day tanks).

It is even possible to mount an agitator or pump on some types of tanks.

Characteristics of Astro tanks

  • For storing (chemical) liquids, food, water and waste water
  • From a volume of 14 litres
  • Rotationally moulded tanks
  • Single and double-walled versions
  • Various certificates (VLAREM II, Eurocodes, Food Grade,...)
  • Certificate for food suitability
  • Long service life
  • In compliance with European standard EN13575

Advantages of Astro tanks

  • Fast delivery
  • Cheaper compared to customised tanks for smaller volumes.
  • Very good chemical resistance to highly corrosive liquids.
  • Seamless parts and no welds. Especially with critical media such as nitric acid, this is an advantage.
  • Mirror-smooth tank walls
  • Lightweight, easy to manipulate
  • Calculated with the strictest building codes
  • Geschikt voor voeding

Possible versions

Astro tanks are available in different models and colours.

Modellen

  • HYDRO: 'light version', suitable for water or to be used as a collection tank for safety.
  • STANDARD: model for medium-density acids or a water tank with connections.
  • MA/1: stronger model for heavy products.
  • MA/2: even stronger model for heavy products and resistant to extreme temperatures.
  • MA/3: same as above tank, but for very large volumes.

Colours

Astro products come in 3 different colours:

  • White* (most commonly used for indoor installation)
  • Grey
  • Black (for products that degrade under the influence of sunlight)

**Because of UV additives contained in all Astro tanks, white tanks may be slightly more yellow than usual. This yellow colour is only a side effect when producing heavy tanks. After absorbing sunlight for about a week, the yellow colour disappears.

Density of Astro tanks

The density of the AstroTank is 90-95% compared to MDPE. As a result, there are few inclusions in the material. The high proportion of base material results in a tank with a relatively high weight. Among other things, this ensures a longer lifespan than many other storage tanks on the market. The chemical resistance of Astro tanks is also excellent.

Bottoms of Astro tanks: flat or conical

Tanks produced by rotomoulding (rotational moulding) are initially rigid. Just after production, the bottom of the tanks can take the following shapes (A, B and C):

The bottom only takes this shape temporarily, when the tank is filled it will take on its final shape (D), namely an 'elephant's foot'. As standard, the Astro tank has a flat bottom.

Possible deviation

Exceptionally, an imperfection may be present in the form of a clot. These clumps are on the inside of the tanks and do not indicate a loss of quality.

The range of Astro tanks with conical bottom can be used perfectly when you want the tank to be completely empty after use or when there is a risk of sedimentation. A conical-bottom tank is not used for storing liquids, but for mixing or processing substances in process or mixing tanks.

Quality measurement of your Astro tank

Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR)

Each Astro tank is thoroughly tested for resistance of the plastic (PE) in contact with different liquids.

The test consists of collecting all small pieces of the material to be tested. These are folded and put into a test tube. This test tube is filled with a liquid (IGEPAL) and then placed in a heated environment. In this way, the test simulates the ageing process. The test stops when at least 50% of the test material breaks.

The result of the test provides accurate information regarding the resistance of PE in contact with the various substances. This makes it possible to calculate the service life. This test is also regularly used to test the quality of different PE raw materials on the market.

Conclusion: You can rest assured that your Astro (storage) tank is perfectly safe and complies with strict legislation.
