What should I know about mother-daughter tanks?
IBCs are one of the most widely used transport containers for chemicals. Yet they are not safe and practical examples show that residues always remain in the IBC after it is supposedly 'empty'.
As a solution, we have designed the mother-daughter system or IBC Dispense Unit.
IBC Dispense Unit
An IBC Dispense Unit is a double-walled storage tank with a platform made of GRP on top on which you can place an IBC. Our IBC Dispense Unit is high-quality and equipped with accessories.
There are two types of mother-daughter tanks:
Depending on the medium, a mother-daughter tank is either built in HDPE sheet material or in an HDPE wrap tube. A wrap tube is recommended for certain liquids to increase service life of the tank, e.g. for high concentrations of sulphuric acid, javel or hydrogen peroxide. When making a tank with a winding tube (stress-free), the weld between the base plate and the cylinder is tempered at a high temperature, so as to remove the stress from that point as well.
We also offer materials other than HDPE-100, depending on the medium.
Before you can use the mother-daughter tank, you have to order a hiring inspection. We would like to give you a brief overview of tank maintenance and mandatory inspections.
Application of mother-daughter tanks
This system is often used in:
- Chemicals for water treatment
- Cleaning chemicals in the food industry
- Chemicals for process installations
- Gas scrubbers
- Surface treatment
The advantages of a mother-daughter tank
Safe for employees and the environment
- No more handling with flexibles full of chemicals.
- The pump draws from the tank and not the IBC.
- No more buckets and open containers full of chemicals.
Continuous production process
The system provides a 30% buffer. So there is always product in the tank. You can refill the tank before it is empty. Production does not stop.
Time saving
The level measurement is optimised. So you don't have to keep checking whether the IBC is empty and work more efficiently.
Certainty in environmental inspection
The mother-daughter system is manufactured according to DVS standard 2205, in compliance with Vlarem II and European standard EN12573-1 and 2.
No cleaning cost
The seal of the IBC no longer needs to be broken. This saves you a large cleaning cost.
100% emptying of the IBC
The IBC is emptied optimally, so the remaining product does not have to be disposed of and processed. You can consume all purchased products 100%.
System close to the consumer
We place our system close to the consumer, eliminating the need for metres of pipework.
Long service life
Our installation is entirely in plastic. This ensures a lifespan of 20 years.
Safe placement of the IBC
- Sufficient surface area for easy placement
- Carrying platform has a load capacity of up to 2000 kg
- Slight inclination of the bearing surface ensures optimum emptying of the IBC
- Complete construction in chemical-resistant materials
- Retractable safety guards are fitted all round
- For ergonomic and safety reasons, the container is uncoupled at breast height for indoor installation
Safe use of mother-daughter tanks
- Double-walled version with VLAREM II prototype approval
- Mother-daughter system for indoor installation also guarantees the collection of the IBC and thus also serves as a collection container.
- When disconnecting the IBC, the flexible hose can be latched so that possible liquid residues are not spilled on the ground or on the user.
- Optionally, the IBC valve can be fitted with a coupling that allows safe and quick connection to the mother-daughter system.
- Optionally available "VLAREM accessories" such as gauge glass, overfill protection and leak detection ensure continuous monitoring.
- Anti-drift protection: inner tank is attached to collection tank
Instead of using several IBCs each time, invest in one (or more) large storage tank. In the long run, you will save a lot of money and immediately reduce the risk of leaks. Read all about it in our cost-benefit analysis..
