Installation platforms in stainless steel and GRP (Aquafin)

The customer

Aquafin specializes in water treatment and ensures clean waterways in Flanders. Today the company treats 84% of all household wastewater.

Purpose

For their site in Bruges, Aquafin knocked on CGK's door. Their goal was to safely access the automatic valves installed on their wastewater piping. This piping runs above the basins containing wastewater and is therefore difficult to access.

Problem-solution

In order to reach the automatic valves safely, CGK doctored a solution in the form of a platform accessible via a ladder.

  • We installed a total of 8 platforms with the necessary railings and ladders made of stainless steel (inox). This in order to guarantee strength.
  • We opted for GRP (glass-fiber reinforced plastic) walkways because of their high chemical resistance (resistant to corrosive vapors from wastewater). Cut-outs were made in the gratings for the piping. The cutouts were treated with resin to keep out moisture and thus preserve the quality of the profile.

The difficult access, danger of falling and harmful gases presented an additional challenge for our CGK workers.

After making a risk analysis and inspecting all materials and tools, we could get to work. Equipped with the necessary protective equipment, a life jacket and safety harness , we worked as safely as possible. Using a mobile tower crane, we were able to reach the automatic valves and install the landings.
